Overview

YingYing Chen, 30 Days Bonsai 2011, Mixed Media
An exhibition about artists practising and engaging with local sustainability.
Sustainability is fast becoming a buzzword as big businesses and consumer marketing trends are beginning to capitalise on the current social anxiety and appeal associated with “going green”. Investigations into the politics surrounding the concern for dwindling resources and environmentally unfriendly practices have become valid and timely platforms for art making.
Homegrown is an exhibition of artistic engagement with the environment, sparked by growing awareness of sustainable living ideologies and practices. Motivated by ‘sustainability’, artists have created works which explore practices that have become part of our everyday lives. Themes that artists approached included energy, recycling, water, food production and transport.
Join participating artists and guest speaker, Costa Georgiadis – an advocate for sustainable living practice, landscape architect and host of the much loved SBS series Costa’s Garden Odyssey- for the opening night launch of Homegrown at 6pm on Wednesday 2 November.
In connection with Try This at Home, Natural Fuse by Haque: Design + Research (UK) will visit COFA Space as part of Homegrown. Natural Fuse is a micro scale CO2 monitoring and overload protection framework that works locally and globally, harnessing the carbon-sinking capabilities of plants.
Curated by the Master of Art Administration (Exhibition Management and Curatorial Studies) students of the College of Fine Arts:-
